| A charitable and non-governmental institution that protects, cares for and advocates for abandoned children. El Hogar provides refuge to orphaned, mistreated and disadvantaged children in El Salvador.
The goal of El Hogar La Divina Providencia is to strengthen the means which facilitate the educational, emotional physical and moral development of orphan, homeless, and abandoned children in El Salvador.
On March 8th 1984, this institution was founded by a group of Carmelite sisters as a center to benefit orphaned children. It was originally started with the purpose of aiding children of terminally ill cancer patients, and was broadened into including children that were in high risk groups in the aftermath of our civil war.
The children are between 4 and 18 years of age. They attend nearby schools, and their learning is reinforced by volunteer tutors from universities. The children are also trained in different technical areas in order to be successfully integrated into society and be productive self-sufficient adults, once they leave the orphanage. |
